Well it is November 1st and a holiday in Germany so Nancy is off work and we planned on a lazy day at home (since everything is closed) and we had a knock at our door at 9:30 a.m. and our wonderful neighbors invited us for a hike into the Black Forest. We thought it would be a walk near our house but we drove about 15-20 minutes to a place to hike up into the forest...
The pictures are below and so beautiful - it was a great day and so unexpected. It is good for a planner like Nancy to have these fun days with no planning and no expectations (yes - Nancy is writing this and trying to take notes and be more adaptable). We have the best neighbors that always think of us and ask us to do fun adventures around the city.
We went with a co-worker of Nancy's on Halloween night to trick or treat. It was an amazing experience. The best way to describe it is to imagine that you are taking your kids trick or treating 2 weeks before Halloween and in a large apartment complex. The kids ran from apartment to apartment and rang the bell until someone let them in... Halloween and trick or treating is not common in Germany so the kids got an orange, piece of cake, huge bar of chocolate and some people were prepared and had small pieces of candy. They trick or treated for 1 hour and got about 10 pieces of candy/goodies. They had to work hard and accept rejection during the process here... It was great!!!
We will be coming home for a visit November 17th through 28th. We will be all over Michigan but hopefully we will see lots of people.
Love to all - Happy Fall!
Brad and Nancy
